The goal of the solar car is to build a car that is powered exclusively on solar energy and recaptured mechanical energy, rather than on the typical gasoline or diesel fuels. This means we are building a car that runs itself on free energy and does not consume any finite resources or add to the carbon dioxide pollution problem. The solar car is the third iteration of the the original Wahj solar car designed by the Seraaj Team. It is built according to the Solar Car Challenge Australian regulations and developed by former members of the Seeraj Team under the estidamah banner.
The solar car is a marvel of engineering and design, requiring multiple disciplines - from aerodynamics to electrical to communication and control systems to manufacturing and mechanical engineering - to bring the car from idea to reality.
Our ultimate objectives with the solar car are to raise awareness about renewable energy products and their effectiveness, inspire Saudi youth to develop their own technologies and products, and establish a Saudi manufacturing and development ecosystem so the Kingdom can develop its own products.
The members of Estidama bring many accomplishments to the table in regards to solar energy, engineering, and youth involvement in the region:
Designed and manufactured “Wahj” and “Wahj2”, the first Saudi solar cars
First Arab team to compete in World Solar Challenge in Australia
Issued first Saudi vehicle identification number, which means Saudi is now listed as a car manufacturing country
Winner of 2015 National Energy Globe Award
Trained more than 50 students in different fields of engineering and project management
Helped conduct 17 senior design projects at KFUPM
Successfully established an independent team managed entirely by young people
Acknowledged and cited in multiple articles, books, and TV shows
